David González - Dire Straits

Childhood:

Mark Knopfler is the principal component of the group. He was born in 1949 in Glasgow. Is the second of three sons of Earwin Knopfler and Louisa Mary Laidler. When he was 9 years old his family and him moved to the city. And he started liking music listening to his uncle Kingsley playing boogie-woogie with the piano. During those years his father and his uncle pretend to teach him to play the piano and the violin. But Mark always prefer the guitar. With 15 years his father bought him his first guitar, a Hofner V2 Solid red and black. Then he started playing listening to some musicians like B.B. King, J.J. Cale, Jimi Hendrix and Hank Marvin and he started practising in friends houses, and also playing in school parties. One of these events make him play in the TV in 1966, with only 16 years old, playing the song Chilly Winds.

After of that he study periodism and his career grew and grew.

Why Dire Straits?

We choose Dire Straits because of their music style. Although there are a lot of different rock groups, we think that their music is different. Unlike other, they are a humble group, founded by a group of Friends who liked to play music. These are de reasons why whe choose Dire Straits.

Finally, after a huge amazing life, the group get disolved. They are remembered like the fathers of the modern rock.

Dire Straits - Mikel Ferrer - Fame

Hal Lindes, in 1985, decided to leave the group and led the position to Jack Sonni, who replaced him. Also the band singed up Guy Fletchier to touch the keyboard. On the same year, the group, launched to sale “Brother in Arms” witch was a great international success. On that album, there were the most famous songs like “Money for Nothing”, “So far away”, “Walk of Life” or “Brothers in arms”.

Another great success was the world musical tour  on the years 1985-1986.

On the Next Six Years Long UN had Downtime , where there range of the band members continued to rip his solo works. They broke the silence with the new song money for nothing.

 their last album was in 1991 the name was On Every Street, with the collaboration of the group brother in arms, it has very little of success.

The last concert of Dire straits was on the 9 of October of 1992 there was 40.000 persons in the stadium of the romadera in Zaragoza.

For 1995 in advanced the members of the group makes works by their own.

It isn´t know why they split up… the reason is unknown

Carlos Saldise (Beginnings of the group).

The group was born in England, in 1977. Their leader was Mark Knopfer (guitarrist and vocal), he founded the group with his brother David (guitarrist). Knopfer brothers, were born in Scotland. They were really good guitarrist, and they are incluided in the list of the 100 best guitarrist in theworld by the magazine of the Rolling Stones. The rest of the group was John Illsley (bass) and Pick Withers (drummer). With the arrival of Pick, the group take of experience, since he had experience in the field, and Mark start taking more seriously the future of the group. The 9 of Dicembre of 1977 they signed their first big contract for a record.
